The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs has directed the Chief Secretaries of all States to ensure settlement of community claims and speedy implementation of the Forest Rights Act, 2006.As of January 30 this year, 20 States have received 1,39,266 Community Forests Rights (CFR) claims; of this 64,328 (46.19%) claims have been recognised. The States have been asked to review claims received since April 1, 2014, to ensure there have been no wrongful rejections. The Ministry regularly monitors the progress in distribution of title deeds. Claims receivedMadhya Pradesh has received the highest number of community claims (39,419) followed by Chhattisgarh (27,548). Himachal Pradesh received the least (68), followed by Tripura (277), Goa (372) and Rajasthan (700). Bihar and Uttarakhand reportedly did not receive any claims. Madhya Pradesh has recognised the highest number of these claims (27,275), followed by Chhattisgarh (14,161), Odisha (5,964), and Maharashtra (5,748).
