Stat: India storm to fifth successive ODI series victory

first_imgIndia stormed to their fifth consecutive ODI series victory as India beat Sri Lanka by six wickets in the third One-Day International of the five-match series at Pallekele on Sunday.India’s series win against Sri Lanka is preceeded by their ODI series victories over Zimbabwe, New Zealand, England and West Indies.Against Sri Lanka, India registered their seventh successive bilateral series victory on Sunday. (Also Read: Virat Kohli lauds Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni after India clinch ODI series)While India is leading 3-0 in the five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, the Men in Blue defeated Zimbabwe 3-0 in 2016, New Zealand 3-2 in 2016, England 2-1 early in 2017 and West Indies 3-1 in 2017 after the Champions Trophy in England.During the third ODI against Sri Lanka on Sunday in Pallekele, MS Dhoni equalled Chaminda Vaas and Shaun Pollock’s record for most not-outs in ODIs with 72 unbeaten innings.Dhoni remained not out at 67 runs while Rohit Sharma struck an unbeaten 124 as India reached the target of 218 with 29 balls to spare.Dhoni shattered another record as the Indian wicket-keeper became India’s leading run scorer in ODIs overhauling Mohammad Azharuddin’s tally of 9378 runs.Jasprit Bumrah picked up his maiden five-wicket haul and finished with career-best figures of 5/27 as India restricted Sri Lanka to 217 runs.
