HOPE FOR JOBS AS GROUP MEETS TO BREATH NEW INDUSTRY INTO WEST DONEGAL

first_imgA working group report commissioned to exam job creation opportunities in the Gaoth Dobhair Business Park is to be launched next Friday.Largo Foods were one of the companies which left the estate. It follows the recent loss of many jobs in various sectors in the West Donegal region in recent months. They included the Largo Foods plant and many others. Údarás na Gaeltachta said the interagency working group charged with exploring potential enterprise development for Gaoth Dobhair Business Park will publish its findings – six month after the report was originally expected to be completed. The move has been welcomed by local Sinn Fein TD Pearse Doherty.“I of course welcome this announcement that this long awaited report into job creation and new enterprise development for Gaoth Dobhair Business Park is finally being unveiled.”“I have continuously pushed for the publication of this interagency report ever since this time last year when the area was dealt a huge blow following the shock announcement by Largo Foods that it was to cease its manufacturing operations in Gaoth Dobhair with the loss of 146 jobs subsequently transferring all operations to Ashbourne in County Meath.” “The Government at the time announced that a task force would be established to examine potential job opportunities in the wake of these job losses and that a report would be drawn up within six months – one year on we’re finally going to see the contents of this eagerly awaited report.”“The fact that the Government has missed its own target by six months doesn’t bode well for future job creation; however, its publication is better late than never.”He added there is indeed a burning need for a strategy with clear targets with regards to job creation for West Donegal and I hope that this report provides us with such a strategy in order to tackle the problem.“The people of Donegal are all too used to reports which have been drawn up by various task forces through the years which have turned out to be nothing more than glorified dust gatherers on department shelves.”“Hopefully this report is different, and if it does in fact prove to be so, then my Sinn Féin party colleagues and I will support it as we will indeed lend our support to anything which has the potential to bring much needed jobs to West Donegal.” HOPE FOR JOBS AS GROUP MEETS TO BREATH NEW INDUSTRY INTO WEST DONEGAL was last modified: March 22nd, 2015 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img
