Exclusive – Former Chelsea defender believes Blues must address lack of first-team academy products

first_imgFormer Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair has called on the Blues to address the shortage of academy players featuring in the first team, particularly after the recent success of the youth team squads at Stamford Bridge.Jose Mourinho’s side cantered to the Premier League title this season with three games to spare, but captain John Terry remains the only academy product who is guaranteed a starting role.Mourinho recently handed 19-year-old Ruben Loftus-Cheek his full Premier League debut during the 1-1 draw with Liverpool, but Sinclair believes the shortage of youth players graduating to the first team is a concern.“They have to address it. For John Terry to be the last regular to play in Chelsea’s first team is a concern,” the 43-year-old told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show.“They’ve probably got the best academy in Europe and they should have more players playing in the first team.”last_img
