Twiddle Teams Up With Madalia For Special Set To Kick Off 3-Night Baker’s Dozen Late Night Run [Full Audio]

first_imgLast night, Twiddle kicked off their three-night run at Irving Plaza coinciding with the start of Phish’s historic Baker’s Dozen run at Madison Square Garden. Twiddle’s Thursday night show served as a pre-party ahead of the first show of the other Vermont four-piece’s thirteen-night residency at MSG, which starts today. As a special treat, Twiddle was joined by fellow Vermonters and synth-pop aficionados Madalia for a special combined cover set dubbed “Twidalia.” During their five-song joint set, Twiddle and Madalia teamed up on classics by Stevie Wonder, Jackie Wilson, Marvin Gaye, The Human League, and The Maytals, with the opening number of “Boogie On Reggae Woman” serving as a perfect high-energy kick-off to the night as well as an appropriate nod to Phish, whose cover of the track has become a staple in the group’s repertoire. Our Official Guide To Phish Baker’s Dozen Late NightsFollowing the “Twidalia” set, Twiddle moved into two traditional sets featuring the group in its original form. The second set of the night and the first set of Twiddle saw the group gearing up for the rest of the night and subsequent two nights of the run, starting things off with a nice rendition of “Subconscious Prelude” to get things underway. If the second set was a warm-up, the third set truly delivered the goods and saw the group dialed in and in proper form. Highlights of the night included “Dr. Remidi’s Melodium” as well as the final song of the night, a cover of Ritchie Valen’s “La Bamba,” which served as the final number of the third set rather than an encore due to time constraints.
