The Ocean City Police Department will celebrate National Distracted Driving Month with a zero-tolerance campaign for the first three weeks of April.The department announces such campaigns in advance to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving and to encourage drivers to comply.Ocean City will join the national U Drive. U Text. U Pay. program from April 1 to April 21, cracking down on drivers who talk on hand-held mobile phones, send text messages and engage in other distracted driving practices, including:Eating and drinkingGroomingReading — including mapsUsing a navigation systemWatching a videoAdjusting a radio, CD or MP3 playerA 2013 survey from the Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind Poll suggests 72 percent of respondents say they “very often” see people driving and talking on a hand-held cell phone and 40 percent “very often” see drivers texting.In New Jersey, talking on a hand-held cellphone or texting are primary offenses.
Healthy Schools LLC, in partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), will offer no-cost, in-school tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough – also called pertussis – (Tdap) vaccinations to sixth-grade students. The booster is required by Florida law before a child enters 7th grade.The Tdap booster will be administered by nurses from Healthy Schools at clinics set up at middle schools and K-8 centers between May 21 and May 31, 2018. Parents should contact their child’s school for specific dates and times of the clinics. A consent form will be sent home with each student. Parents or guardians may either complete the paper form and return it to the school any day before the clinic day scheduled for their child’s school or sign up at www.miamiitdap.com/6 between April 30 and May 11, 2018. Children will not be vaccinated without the completed consent form.The paper consent form will available in English and Spanish.
